A Saturday Night at Auburndale Speedway: Polk County Racing Since 1974

From roaring engines to local traditions, Auburndale Speedway remains one of Central Florida's most unique weekend destinations.

If you're looking for something different to do on a Saturday night in Polk County, Auburndale Speedway might be worth adding to your list.

I recently stopped by the speedway to catch some races and see what the atmosphere was all about. Even if you're not a die-hard racing fan, it's easy to appreciate the energy of the crowd, the sound of the engines, and the excitement that comes with close, local competition.

Auburndale Speedway opened in 1974 and has been a staple of local racing for more than 50 years. Located in Winter Haven on County Road 542, the track features a quarter-mile paved oval that hosts a variety of racing divisions and special events throughout the year.

One of the things that stood out to me most was how close spectators are to the action. Unlike major racing venues where you're sitting hundreds of feet away, Auburndale Speedway offers an up-close experience. You can hear every acceleration, watch the battles for position unfold in real time, and feel the excitement of each restart.

The speedway attracts racers and fans from across Central Florida and continues to be an important part of the local community. Whether you're a longtime racing enthusiast or just looking for a fun evening with family or friends, it's an experience that's uniquely Polk County.

If you're interested in attending an event, you can find schedules, ticket information, and upcoming races on their website at www.auburndalespeedway.net.

A major development proposal is drawing attention in South Polk County. The City of Fort Meade has approved plans for what could become one of the largest tech-related projects in the region—a hyperscale data center campus. While projects like this are often framed as economic wins, the response locally has been more mixed.
