From her childhood on 4th Street to writing music for some of the biggest names in the industry, discover the Polk County roots of singer and songwriter Sevyn Streeter.

If you've ever driven through Haines City, Florida, you may have noticed a green sign welcoming visitors to the city with an interesting message: "Home of Sevyn Streeter, Award Winning Recording Artist and Songwriter."

But how many people know the story behind that sign?

Before becoming a nationally recognized R&B singer and songwriter, Sevyn Streeter was Amber Denise Streeter, a young girl growing up right here in Haines City, a small community in Central Florida's Polk County.

Her journey from Haines City to the music industry is an interesting piece of local history, and one that residents may not realize is connected to their hometown.

Growing Up in Haines City

Born on July 7, 1986, Amber Denise Streeter discovered her passion for music at an early age.

Growing up in Haines City, she was surrounded by a close-knit family and a community that would eventually become an important part of her identity as an artist.

Her musical beginnings were rooted in church, where she developed her singing abilities. She sang in the choir at Tabernacle of Praise in nearby Winter Haven and participated in musical performances throughout her childhood.

By just 10 years old, she had already appeared on the nationally televised talent show Showtime at the Apollo, performing "My Funny Valentine."

It was an early indication that the young girl from Haines City had ambitions extending well beyond Central Florida.

From Polk County to the Music Industry

Sevyn Streeter's professional music career began during her teenage years when she joined the girl group TG4. She later became a member of another R&B group, RichGirl.

Although neither group achieved lasting commercial success, these experiences helped establish her career in the music industry.

She eventually found considerable success as a songwriter, contributing to music performed by major recording artists, including Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, and Brandy.

Her songwriting accomplishments helped establish her reputation in the industry while she continued developing her own career as a recording artist.

In 2013, she released her solo EP Call Me Crazy, But..., featuring the successful single "It Won't Stop," which included a collaboration with Chris Brown.

Her career continued with additional releases, collaborations, and performances, but her connection to Haines City remained an important part of her story.

The Story Behind "4th Street"

Perhaps one of the most meaningful connections between Sevyn Streeter and Haines City came in 2015, when she released a song titled "4th Street."

Rather than focusing on fame or commercial success, the song was a personal tribute to the neighborhood, family members, and friends who helped raise her.

The title references the street where she grew up in Haines City.

What makes the song particularly interesting from a local perspective is its accompanying music video.

Streeter returned to Haines City to film the video, reconnecting with childhood friends, spending time with family, and revisiting the community that shaped her early life.

The video features familiar neighborhood surroundings and a celebration with people who knew her long before she became a recording artist.

In interviews and social media posts surrounding the release, Streeter explained that the song was dedicated to the people who supported her throughout her life, regardless of her success.

It's a personal tribute to her roots and a reminder of the role that family and community can play in someone's journey.

But beyond the development and growth taking place throughout the region, there are countless stories about the people, places, and history that make Polk County unique.

Sevyn Streeter's journey is one of those stories.

From singing in church and growing up in Haines City to writing music for internationally recognized performers, her career is a reminder that interesting stories can begin in places we pass through every day.
