Taking SunRail from Poinciana to Winter Park: A Relaxing Alternative to Driving
I rode SunRail from the Poinciana Station to Winter Park to see what the experience was really like—and it might be one of Central Florida's most underrated ways to travel.

If you've ever wanted to visit Orlando or Winter Park without dealing with traffic, tolls, or finding parking, SunRail may be worth considering. I recently took the train from the Poinciana SunRail Station in Kissimmee to Winter Park to experience it for myself, and it turned out to be an easy and enjoyable trip.
The Poinciana Station is located just outside Polk County, only about 10 to 15 minutes from Davenport, making it a convenient option for many local residents. Purchasing tickets was simple using the station kiosks, and a round-trip ticket to Winter Park cost just $5.50.
Inside, the train was clean, comfortable, and spacious, with seating on two levels and a middle section. Although there were several stops along the route, boarding was quick and efficient, and the train stayed on schedule throughout the trip.
One of the highlights was arriving in Winter Park. The station is located just steps from Park Avenue and Central Park, making it easy to explore one of Central Florida's most charming downtown districts. We spent the afternoon enjoying brunch, grabbing coffee, browsing local shops, and walking through the beautiful streets before catching the train back home.
The return trip was just as convenient. Instead of sitting in traffic after a day out, we simply walked back to the station, boarded the train, and relaxed on the ride home.
SunRail also serves several other destinations throughout Central Florida, including downtown Orlando, Sand Lake Road, Sanford, and DeLand. While the Sand Lake Road station offers a connection to Orlando International Airport via a shuttle service, the rail line itself does not go directly to the airport.
If you've never ridden SunRail before, it's an experience I'd recommend trying. Whether you're planning a day trip to Winter Park, downtown Orlando, or another stop along the line, it's an affordable and stress-free way to travel.
